Codemasters Announce Withdrawal of Services

Just a quick post to warn all players on the EU servers that Codemasters will be gradually withdrawing some of the services offered, in preparation for being reabsorbed into the Turbine fold, scheduled for June 1st. Please also note that those of us on the EU servers will not be receiving the new update, scheduled for 24th May, until after the change over. We personally anticipate that the EU servers will probably experience about a weeks downtime while this takes place, I hope it’s a day or two, and not a few weeks, but realistically we think expect a week.

Here is a list of the following services due to be withdrawn first:

Players will be unable to purchase or raise tickets for the following services on or after the dates shown:

Tuesday 24th May, 2011 9:00 AM (GMT+1)
Kinship Rename
World Character Transfer
Character Undelete
Hacked Account Restart Programme

Monday 30th May, 2011 9:00 AM (GMT+1)
Reimbursement Policy

Any open requests or orders for these services at the time of their closing will continue to be processed normally.

Announcements will be made later on telling all Codemasters customers what procedure they will need for switching to a Turbine account, and we will keep you posted as soon as we can.

  1. We were discussing the issue of estimated downtime for the migration process today, whilst recording yet another podcast.

I stuck my neck out and said two weeks and raised the thorny issues of a staggered migration on a server by server basis.

    • Good stuff, I look forward to listening to it!

Yeah, you could well be right. I very much doubt a ‘few days’ as some people are saying. I have heard a lot of: ‘it only needs to be a day or two’, but having worked in larger companies nothing is ever than prompt, I will be amazed if it is, but happy to eat my words! There will be a lot of online disgruntlement about it (for a change), people will be utterly unable to manage their expectations, and I doubt Turbine will do much to manage them for them (and lets be honest they are kinda boned either way). Pending a massive FUBAR then I think saying a week, or as you say perhaps two, is plenty. If we see a month… well then I won’t be pleased, and I wouldn’t wanna be Turbine 😀

I for one have planned on playing some more Allods online, and Mount and Blade for a week or so, and catching up on some blog reading and writing, and we’ll see how it goes!
